The 'Alfie' Award is to honour the renowned broadcaster, producer and actor Alf McCarthy, by recognising a talent working to the same high standards of professionalism and passion.
Throughout his radio, television and stage career, Alf had one master - the audience. Everything he did, from producing documentaries, to presenting music shows, to embodying a difficult character, was approached with meticulous attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and great sense of humour. He believed the audience deserved to be informed, entertained, included, and to get their money's worth.
Alf and Sharon were life partners and he worked with Flawless Films on all our productions.
This award is to honour his career, as the loss of the person is immeasurable.
The 'Alfie' Award is free to enter and open to anyone working professionally at any level in the same fields who emulates his attitude. Applications open on April 17th 2025 and close at midnight on July 18th with a shortlist of nominees announced shortly afterwards.
